Stanswood Camp
The layout is loosely based on the RAF line that ran at
Calshot next to Southampton Water, which was a base for seaplanes. The line was
2 foot gauge and ran between the two world wars, being finally closed in 1946,
although the base was still an operational RAF base until 1961. The original line
was used to initially to assist in the construction of the base and in later years
would transport stores and personal around the site.
The model represents a post WW2 army base which is located
near the coast. Part of the site is suffering from erosion and this is being rebuilt
using crushed stone from a local quarry.
