Hudswell Clarke D29

14 of these were bought by New Zealand to run on the 3ft 6in gauge, they were 40hp with 3 speeds.  Despite the gauge they are not large, probably a modified design for smaller gauges.

Military Train

Modular Layout - A corner board

Did sketch out a 90 degree corner board. However, for it to work as a corner between two straight boards the radius of the track would be around 450mm, which is considerably less than the 600mm used on the Peco points. The tighter radius may work with 0-4-0 locos and short wagons but anything bigger will obviously struggle.

However, a 45 degree corner board would allow a 600 radius - so two of these would give 90 degrees, so provide a slight change of direction.

Second Baseboard

The end wall and buffers is removeable, so it can used with any of the baseboards. It is right handed, therefore a left handed version would be needed for the other end.

Military Theme

The railway at Calshot was quite small but will provide an influence, the Barclay E class loco "Douglas" which runs on the Talyllyn Railway originally ran at Calshot. In the early years of the railway, there was also a quarry at Eaglehurst, which is 2 miles away from Calshot.

The tank is a Humber Armoured car, which saw service in WW2. The Land rover would have come out in 1948 and the Barclay loco was used by the RAF at Calshot Spit until the end of the war, so things almost line up - but certainly a possibility without too much imagination.

The baseboards were given two coats of the above sealer.
